The purpose of a buddy bench is simple: to help young children give and receive kindness and to build sensitivity towards others. In an outdoor playground or indoor space, the bench can help children who are feeling left out or lonely to feel included. By sitting on the bench, a child sends a signal to other children that he or she wants to play. A child who notices can walk over and offer an invitation to join a game. It’s a win-win.
